Have you ever felt alone? Forgotten? Abandoned?
George, a Deaf man living in Kenya, felt the same way.
Many in the Kenyan Deaf community experience discrimination. They are ignored by those who can hear. They might struggle to do simple things you and I can do easily, things like purchasing groceries or stopping at the bank.
Most Deaf Kenyans aren’t helped in school. They struggle to read lips and understand written language, which can feel foreign for people who primarily communicate through body language.

You likely know what it’s like to feel ignored and unseen.
As a Deaf man, George felt the same way. He felt hopeless.
Eventually, he drowned his loneliness with alcohol. Drinking fueled his anger, and he got into fights.
One day, George attended a Deaf church.
Imagine how it must have felt for him to worship God using sign language, the language that speaks directly to his heart!
During the service, he watched closely as the pastor signed Acts 16:16–40 in Kenyan Sign Language.
In the story, Paul and Silas were trapped in prison when an earthquake broke their shackles free and burst their cell door open.
But they stayed put.
This decision shocked the jailer. He asked them, “What must I do to be saved?” Paul and Silas shared the good news with the jailer, and he was saved.
When the sermon ended, George stood up and declared he wanted to be saved like the jailer!
He signed, “In the past, I acted sinfully. I was a drunkard; I fought people and did many bad things. I need forgiveness and salvation. I want good relationships with the other Deaf people here. I have put alcohol behind me and will never partake in it again.”
In November 2023, George quit drinking. Now he’s focusing on his work as a logger, and he holds onto the hope of a Savior who speaks his language.

Only 2% of the world’s 70 million Deaf people have ever had the gospel of Jesus Christ communicated clearly to them.
And right now, over 850 people groups are still waiting for a single verse of Scripture in their language. With your help, we can change that.
Will you help Bible translators bring God’s Word to their communities?
Will you help us commit $70,000 toward Bible translation this month?
A small group of generous investors will match gifts totaling up to $35,000.
You can help people like George experience the wisdom of God’s Word.
If we raise $70,000 together, we can help translate 2,000 verses!
With your generous support, many more people can find hope in heart language Scripture.
Not only will your gift be doubled, but if you give today, we’ll send you an exclusive phone background. This will help you meditate on the power of Scripture in your own life.
