Xamtanga speakers live in a "Forgotten Zone."
That’s how Xamtanga speakers refer to the mountainous terrain of northern Ethiopia they call home. Many in the community are subsistence farmers, relying on scarce rainfall to grow their crops. Because of their rugged location, community members struggle to make ends meet.Â
But God has not forgotten them.
In 2019, Xamtanga speakers celebrated the completion of the New Testament! But that was just the beginning. They need the full counsel of God.Â

Before the Xamtanga had Scripture in their language, they struggled to understand God's love.
A translation reviewer saw his wife weeping while she listened to Scripture in Xamtanga. Through tears, she asked him, “Why have you never told me how Jesus Christ died?” She couldn’t fully comprehend her Savior’s sacrifice until she heard it in her language.
Translators are working hard to translate the full Bible in Xamtanga.
Rebels attacked the Xamtanga community in 2021, killing many. Xamtanga Bible translators who were translating the Old Testament fled with their families, making sure to bring their laptops with them. “This work is like my child,” one translator explained. “How can I leave my child? I picked it up as I picked up my son.”
But they need your help.
