Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

How is the Residency structured?

The Residency is built around learning in cohorts of 2-3 consultants-in-training with real translation teams on real projects, under the supervision of a mentoring consultant. These opportunities occur up to four times per year, and are supplemented by other training, both informal and formal, as needed, based on each resident’s need for development in the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to fulfill the role of translation consultant. The expected duration of the Residency program is approximately three years, with more or less time required based on each resident’s individual development plan needs.

What is required to be certified as a Bible translation consultant?

The Residency uses the Competency-Based Certification approach, widely implemented across the global Bible translation movement. The required competencies are detailed here: https://bibletranslationcompetencies.org/.

How difficult will the program be?

The residency program is educationally dense, includes travel and hands-on training opportunities, and requires a full-time commitment to be successfully completed. Residents should expect to study outside of regular working hours.

Is the Residency paid?

Residents are paid an annual salary for this full-time position. If the Resident is not based in the US, Seed Company will compensate based on the equivalent salary for the same position in the resident’s country. The program also pays for all travel and training expenses and provides required equipment (e.g., laptop) for each resident.

How much travel should I expect to do in the program?

Between trips to work with translation teams and mentoring translation consultants, training opportunities, and other events included in the program, residents will have to travel about 12 weeks per year in total.

Can my family participate in travel and activities in the residency program?

Seed Company values unity and healthy relationships between residents and their families; however, resources are allocated specifically to residents only and will not be used to bring family to training or travel.

Can I be a part of the program if I’m not an American citizen?

Yes. Residents can work from their country of residence. Residency participants can work in the United States if they are permanent residents (green card holders) or have a work permit.

How will Seed Company employ me if I am not an American citizen?

Seed Company will hire through a third-party international organization (e.g., Globalization Partners).

Will Seed Company sponsor a work visa?

No. Being a 501c3 nonprofit, Seed Company is legally prohibited from sponsoring a work visa. Residents may work from their country of residence.

Are residents required to live in DFW, or is working remotely an option?

Working remotely is an option if residents can remain well-connected with the other members of their cohort and program administrative staff.

What happens if I decide not to finish the program?

Seed Company desires everyone to successfully pursue their God-given call. Each year, the program will offer opportunities for both the resident and Seed Company leadership to determine whether the resident should continue in the program.

Should I apply if I don’t meet all the requirements?

Please apply, as some requirements are weighted.

If accepted into the Residency program, when would I begin training?

We anticipate the next intake of Residency consultants-in-training to begin in June 2026. Applications will be received in late 2025, and the interview process will begin early 2026. These dates are subject to change based on program availability.
