“God has chosen our current generation to eradicate Bible poverty.” – Jason Elam
In 2002, a contagious passion for the Bibleless infected Jason, his wife Tamy, and their children. “I was ignorant about Bible translation,” Jason admits.
The fact that a people group of more than 1 million did not have Scripture in their heart language shocked him.
Taking Action for the Bibleless
Not long after his introduction to the truth of Bible poverty, Jason embraced an opportunity to visit a Bible translation project.
“My heart became forever rooted in the mission and effort of accelerated Bible translation,” he remembers. He witnessed a group of indigenous believers prepared to give their lives so that their people could have the Word of God in their own language, so they could have hope and a relationship with the one true God.
“It was beautiful, humbling, inspiring, and simply worshipful to observe the heavenly joy these dear ones experienced as they immersed themselves for the first time in hearing God’s gospel that finally had reached their ears, eyes, and hearts.”
Jason fervently declares, “I am convinced God’s desire is for everyone to have his story in their heart language.” He and his family pray for all nations with an urgent desire for all who bear the image of God to readily have the Bible in their native tongue, to experience the love their Creator has for each one of them.
Jason Elam was an NFL kicker for 17 seasons. He won two Super Bowls with the Denver Broncos and was selected for three Pro Bowls. His 63-yard field goal in 1998 tied the NFL record at the time and remains tied for the second-longest in league history. Jason and his wife, Tamy, have four sons and two daughters.
