Some of the most powerful things in the world start small.
We like to talk about seeds around here, and not just because it’s in our name. A seed often starts small and unassuming, but can grow into something really strong and life-giving! The same happens in our families and in our children’s lives.
If you’ve ever watched a kid pray with genuine faith, you know there’s nothing quite like it. There’s no angle or self-consciousness. It’s just an open, honest conversation with a God they actually believe is listening. That kind of prayer doesn’t need to stay inside the four walls of your home. It can reach the ends of the earth.
We believe it already does.
Why Pray for Bible Translation?
Right now, there are 38 million people* around the world who don’t have access to a single verse of Scripture in the language they understand best, their heart language. These are real families, real children, real communities living without the full story of who God is and what He has done. Prayer is not a small response to that reality. It is one of the most direct things any of us can do.
When your child prays for a translator working late into the night in the Democratic Republic of Congo, something happens in the spiritual realm. When they ask God to help a community hear His Word for the first time, they are participating in something ancient and global and deeply meaningful. Prayer is how we all become part of the story, no matter our age.
Make Prayer Part of Daily Life
The key to building any prayer habit with kids is consistency wrapped in curiosity. Children are natural askers. They want to know: Where is that? What language do they speak? Why don’t they have a Bible? Those questions are gifts. Let them open the door.
Here are a few simple ways to build a Bible translation prayer rhythm into your family’s life:
Do it Together. Make it part of your week. Our weekly prayer guides include tangible ways to pray across real translation projects happening right now. Get them to your inbox and incorporate them into the prayer time you have with your children each week.
Tie it to something they already do. Mealtime prayers, bedtime prayers, car ride prayers: these are already part of your family’s rhythm. Slip one sentence in. “God, please help the Bhele translation team in Congo finish well today.” That’s it. That’s enough to start.
Celebrate the answers. When a New Testament is completed, when a community hears Scripture in their language for the first time, share that news with your kids. Show them that the prayers they prayed mattered. This is how faith becomes something they own, not just something they inherited.
See it for yourself. One easy way to catch the vision is with our video library on YouTube. While these videos aren’t specifically designed for children, most are safe to share with even young children and are a great way to visually communicate the differences in cultures and the need for the Bible. It’s also a great way to witness the celebration that happens when a New or Old Testament is completed!
Let them lead. Ask your child to choose a people group to pray for this month. Give them a little information and a lot of room. You may be surprised by the depth and creativity of what they bring to God on behalf of people they’ve never met.
Prayer Is the First Step, Not a Small One
For a family navigating school schedules, tight budgets, and packed calendars, prayer is one of the most real and accessible forms of global participation available. We know there’s a lot vying for your time, and hopping on a plane to see translation in action is not usually possible. But we have direct connection with a God who cares deeply about your family AND Bible translation! May we never forget how powerful prayer can be!
