A beautiful thing happens when people receive Scripture in their heart language: they want more.

The Soli translation team in central Zambia recently finished the New Testament. It’s been warmly received in this culture where the church is growing, but where rampant alcohol abuse and domestic violence are especially harmful to women and girls.

Believers now are asking for the whole Bible. Translators are turning their attention to the Old Testament, starting with Genesis, Ruth, Proverbs, and Jonah. Church leaders believe topics like creation, the fall, family life, and repentance will resonate with the Soli people.

The Bible translation team will publish each book separately so the community won’t have to wait until the whole Old Testament is completed. These new Scripture portions will enhance family devotions and churches’ evangelism and discipleship ministries. A local radio announcer even includes a daily Bible verse in his program!

Church leaders anticipate that when people hear God’s Word clearly, in their own language, the message will bear fruit. They have already seen less conflict between spouses and between parents and children. They expect that increased access to Scripture will lead to healthier families and church communities.
