Walk into a dense rainforest and look up. What you’ll find overhead isn’t one single tree standing alone in a dramatic shaft of light. It’s a canopy: thousands upon thousands of overlapping leaves, branches stretched toward branches, all working together to create something no single tree could accomplish on its own. That protective covering sustains an entire ecosystem below it.
That’s the picture we had in mind when we named our monthly giving community Canopy. And we think it captures something true and important about what we do and why your partnership in it matters so much.
Who We Are
At Seed Company, we accelerate the pace of Bible translation among remaining Bibleless people groups. We work with locally led translation teams, church leaders, and like-minded organizations, more than 1,200 global partners in all. As a result, heart-language Scriptures become available faster in written, oral, Sign, and digital formats, leading to church planting, evangelism, and discipleship.
The main phrase here is heart language: the language someone thinks in, dreams in, and first learned to name their mother and their God. Only 10% of the world’s 7,000-plus language groups have a full Bible translation. That gap is something we simply cannot accept.
So What Is Canopy?
Canopy is our monthly giving community, and its power lies in its simplicity. Many donors making big impact in Bible translation!
That ratio is remarkable. Not because the math is clever, but because of what it reveals about the power of collective, consistent generosity. A single monthly gift may not be a dramatic sacrifice for most donors. But pooled with hundreds and thousands of other Canopy members giving regularly, it becomes something extraordinary: a sustained, reliable stream of resources that our translators and project teams can count on.
Why Broad Donor Support Changes Everything
A single major donor, even a very generous one, is like one solo tree. Impressive, shade-giving, vital. But one tree has limits. It can be stressed by drought. It can be lost. And the gap it leaves behind is significant.
A true canopy, by contrast, is resilient. When many partners give regularly at any level, we stop depending on any one source of funding and start being sustained by something far more durable: community.
This matters enormously for our work, because Bible translation is not a sprint. A single language project can span years. Translators need to be trained, texts need to be checked, communities need to be engaged in the process. All of that requires steady, dependable funding, not just an occasional surge when a compelling story goes viral.
When a broad community of monthly partners holds up the work, our translation teams can plan. They can train the next generation of consultants. They can begin work in languages that have been waiting decades for someone to say yes, your language matters, your people deserve to hear God speak to them in the voice they know.
Join the Canopy
Every leaf in a canopy is part of something larger than itself. That’s what we’re inviting you into through Canopy: not to be a hero, but to be part of a covering that stretches over language communities still waiting for their first verse of Scripture.
A forest can’t grow without its canopy. And the remaining Bibleless peoples of the world are counting on one to form. We’d love for you to be part of it.
Bonus this summer! Our team has been building activity kits specifically designed for our Canopy Investors to engage as a family around Bible translation with activities, stories, and crafts. If you’d like to learn more about Canopy and join us this summer, you can learn more here
