For more than 30 years, Seed Company has held to one steady conviction: every person deserves to encounter God’s Word in their heart language. What began as a handful of Bible translation projects has grown into a global movement touching nearly every region on earth, reaching a total impacted population of approximately 991 million people (Seed Company, 2026).
That number is worth sitting with for a moment.
Nearly one billion people now have access to Scripture in the language they know best, because faithful men and women chose to do this work differently.
Where It All Began
In the early 1990s, the reality became even clearer that thousands of language communities still had no access to any portion of Scripture. The traditional approach, which relied heavily on outside linguists working in isolated settings over many years, simply could not keep pace with the need.
So in 1993, a group of mission leaders launched Seed Company with a different idea:
What if, instead of sending outsiders to do the work for communities, we invested in training and equipping local translators to lead it themselves?
What if the people who actually speak a language were the ones trusted to translate it?
Those founding questions have shaped everything since.
Local Ownership of Scripture Translation Changes Everything
Since then, we have invested in training, funding, and supporting indigenous linguists and local church leaders, not simply because they understood the culture and context, but because they were already part of the faith community that God was building there.
The diversity of languages is both acknowledged and celebrated throughout Scripture, as the Holy Spirit continues to work through heart languages, as seen in Acts 2 and throughout the Bible. God moves through unique languages and cultures while proclaiming the same unified message of salvation. When Scripture speaks in the language a person was born into, something happens that no translation into a second language can fully replicate.
That is why local Bible translators are not just contributors to the work, but the ones who must lead it. They are accountable both to the accuracy of the text and to the people it will serve. When they lead the work, translation accuracy and community trust grow together.
Accurate Scripture Translation Is More Than Words
Accurate Bible translation is not simply a matter of swapping words from one language to another. It means capturing the idioms, the metaphors, and the worldview of each community, so that Scripture carries the same weight and clarity it was always meant to carry.
Seed Company teams work closely with local church leaders and indigenous linguists at every stage of a translation project. Rigorous quality checks are built in throughout, because speed and accuracy are not competing values here. Both matter and both are possible.
Over 30 Years of Faithful Growth
The reach of this work has grown in ways that would have been hard to imagine back in 1993. Today, Seed Company’s active Scripture translation work spans 92 countries through 166 ministry partners, with new Bible translation projects launching each year (Seed Company, 2026).
None of this happened quickly or easily. It happened because of decades of local partnership, careful quality work, and a global Church that refused to leave any language group behind.
The Goal Behind Translated Scripture Has Always Been Transformed Lives
What keeps this work urgent is not a metric we are trying to achieve, but rather the reality that millions of people still wake up each day without the Bible in the language they know best.
A completed translation is not the only finish line. The real finish line is a mother reading the story of Jesus to her children in the language spoken around their dinner table. A father hearing God’s promises in words that bring strength, hope, and vision. A generation growing up with Scripture that feels not foreign but deeply personal, or a grandmother opening the Psalms in her own language for the very first time and realizing God had been speaking to her all along.
That is what heart language Scripture translation is really about.
